I am here in fabulous New York City and the love has never stopped. Every single experience I have have had has been sublime. Lemme explain:
Flight: short and sweet. I had the entire row to myself! A woman shows up across the aisle with an infant! O Mio Dio!! However the little angel slept for the entire flight.
Note: the Italian was courtesy of my adorable italian server Gianluca here at the Armani Restaurant.
I flew with Delta Airlines which seems to have its gates at the far end and original entrance of LaGuadia Airport – art deco and deserted and seemingly steps from the outside and taxi stands. I deplane at 2:30pm and was at my apartment on the East side at 3:05PM.
Lodgings: Free. As you may know I have been obsessed with Times Square and stayed at the Marriot Marquis Times Square when I was in NYC in December. Love that hotel!! However, my BFF Deb and her mom and stepdad (and my adoptive rents) insisted that I stay in their East side apartment (which is empty though fully stocked) on this trip. It is located near the
United Nations and 5th Avenue and very private. It is a wonderful place for any diva to nest.
First Night: I had no plans on my first night and spent it on the couch watching my favorite Black comedians on the Comedy Channel. It was amazing – one comedy special after another. I really love the art of stand up. I often feel that a strong element of my show is akin to stand up because my favorite comedians are great storytellers and y’all know I still got my big story (aka the one woman show) to tell. So, basically I had a night with DL Hugely, a couple new comics I’d never heard, a multi comic tribute show to Richard Pryor, Katt Williams and seven beers. It worked for me.
Plus there is twenty four hour everything in New York. And they are all located across and around the street. And the horns bonking and an occasional siren just thrills me. It may be a recipe for hell for some, but to me on the 5th floor, on Second Avenue, it was just heaven!!
I fell asleep on the couch totally happy.
To be continued…
