Wow!! Tonight was wonderful. The thing that made it so great was the turnout of my friends and family. There were folks in attendance from every aspect of my life: day jobs from the 80’s, college, college friend’s parents, people I’d taken classes with, shopped with, partied with, done events for – you name it. And they were dancing and whooping, hollering, eating and drinking up a storm. Thank you Facebook. Everyone was so loving and happy for me. I am the most blessed person in the world. Of course I was bawling and overwhelmed with pride and gratitude. I am so proud of my wonderful diverse group of friends.
I sang a totally mixed bag of tunes: disco, Amazing Grace, standards, pop ballads, blues, Mary J. Blige & the Stones – with the Trio. and they were fabulous: Brady on drums, Ray on Keys and the lovely Tracey Baker on Bass and backing vocals. Even Palm Court manager Shaun Rajah joined in and knocked everyone’s socks off with his amazing voice when he sang Oleta Adams’ “Get There!” What a hoot! Can’t wait to work up some more of the tunes I have wanted to sing forever: “Lush Life,” “La Vie En Rose,” a la Grace Jones; a French Ya ya song entitled “Laisse Tomber Les Filles” (en Francais) Liza’s “The World Goes Round,” Nina’s “Sugar in My Bowl,” more standards and the unplugged version of “Poker Face” by Lady Gaga. Loving this!!!
And we have been asked back to perform. I will keep you posted!! You gotta come! The Palm Court is my room. I am totally at home there. It’s informal yet very elegant. The food is delicious, the drinks are hearty – what’s not to like?
I am sending out a huge thank you and hugs and kisses to all of my peeps who came out and for those who sent me good thoughts!
