I depart for NYC tomorrow at 6AM. The plan is to go to the venue and get a feel for the room, the staff, the vibe and promote my show by handing out postcards at their outdoor music and wine festival featuring The English Beat. Weather forecast: thunderstorms. Oy! I’ve been spoiled by City Winery Chicago. They treat me like a queen. I am welcomed with open arms and hugs. I’m not quite sure what the vibe is at the New York venue. Right now I am just an unknown entity who is well-liked in Chicago. So I decided to take matters in hand and go and introduce myself before the show date on July 2nd. Maybe they will be inspired to push the show more as the date draws ever closer. I have single handedly promoted this show with the help of my village. This is one scenario where I proudly boast: “It takes a village.” My friends, class-mates and family have successfully spread the word all over. City Winery NY printed 2500 postcards for distribution which was great. I have a street team who promise to pass out and place the postcards in various locations throughout Manhatten, Brooklyn and so on.
Lord knows I am most grateful for the opportunity. If this show goes over well then I passed the test. I’m not talking performance. Oddly enough I am not terribly worried about that. I have my core guys with me. I’m bringing my posse. I just need a huge posse and right now I have no real idea of what the final number will be. If I have a good showing then I know they will have me back. So much depends on this. I don’t know what my ticket sales are at the moment. I’m almost afraid to ask. Deep down I have this feeling that it will be a good crowd come July 2nd, number wise, but I also know that I must be realistic and ready for anything. Meanwhile I am flat broke. I’ve purchased tickets for the band and this ticket for tomorrow and now I’m busted. If it weren’t for my friends I’d be screwed right now. I have never traveled with such a small amount of cash before. I will be exploring subways and buses starting at my arrival and I will be dining at Micky D’s whenever possible. Dollar Menu!! I hope that City Winery will feed me tomorrow!!!
The journey continues … the adventure begins tomorrow morning!
