The New York Chronicles: From Panicked to Hopeful.

Last night I sang at Petterino’s Monday Night Live which is a pro open mic night hosted by two dynamic women who happen to be my friends. Some of the other guest singers were from the touring casts of Broadway musicals playing here in Chicago (“Book of Mormon”) and from the musical “Jungle Book” which makes it world premier at the Goodman Theatre Chicago. Most of the singers were from New York and their performances were breath-taking and awesome. It did my heart good to see them and to be embraced by them. I made some good connections tonight. I met some wonderful performers who were very supportive of me and my upcoming NYC debut of my musical tribute to Nina Simone at City Winery. The Host Denise McGowan Tracey gave me a plug for the NY show when she introduced me. When she announced that it was a “Musical Tribute to Nina Simone,” I heard an audible “ohhh” from the audience. I liked that a lot. That reaction was a tribute to Nina Simone and it empowered me.

I am hopeful. This whole adventure might just work out okay. I just have to keep selling tickets!
