The New York Chronicles: 36 Hours in the Big Apple, Part 3

My last 12 hours of my 36-hour NYC stint to self-promote the Nina Simone show at City Winery NY was spent being treated to lunch and walking around as much as my knees would allow it. After flying in on no sleep, battling stairs, heat, and public transportation, I took a long nap followed by a lovely evening at the venue. I got back to my hotel room and fell asleep immediately. Check-out was at noon. I woke up bright and early and made plans to go to lunch with an old college friend in Chelsea followed by a quick stroll to Central Park.

Luckily, I had a few dollars thanks to “donations” from loved ones. My brother sent money via my niece and of course I had cash from Brenda so though I wasn’t flush with cash I was able to take a cab to the airport for my flight home. I had to watch every dime but that was just fine. I was grateful to have a dime to watch. That was their gift to me.

And so my little adventure paid off in many ways. I got to see the venue, self promote, introduce myself to the staff and reconnect with dear friends who really showed their support. My friend Patrick (a TV executive) talked to the marketing director at the venue and that got some action going. My lunch partner Harry had the emails of an entire branch of friends who have promised to bring more friends. And so now the real push begins.
