WOW!! What a fabulous fucking movie!! It was a gift just to see it. It was funny, irreverent, poignant, painful, joyful, sexy, happy, sad, old & new, young & old. It was about life.
There’s a guy who is brilliant stage director, who has a wife who is a successful artist and who is over it (the marriage) and she goes away with their daughter and leaves him home. He is sufferring from some kind of sickness, wins a huge grant and starts a crazy ambitious theatrical project and the process of that project is what takes us in and out of reality and dreams and fantasy. Meanwhile, we explore his life and aging and lovers and…I’ve gone cross eyed.
You can’t decipher it. You just have to experience it. You may not understand the meaning of some of the images but you really don’t care. Honest. Sometimes I see a movie and just thank the maker for creating the brilliant person who conceives of the darned thing.
And talk about an all star cast: Catherine Keener, Emily Watson, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Michelle Williams, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Samantha Morton, Dianne Wiest, Tom Noonan, Hope Davis
It is a feast for the eyes and imagination. See the Official Movie site under Lynne’s Links: Synecdoche, NY Movie Site.
