Lynne Jordan | A Great Big Diva

Susan Boyle

April 15, 2009 By //  by Lynne Jordan

jojo-apt

By now you’ve all heard about her: the frumpy no name Scot with the feisty personality who shocked the cynics (that be judges) at Britain’s Got Talent with her beautiful rendition of “I Dreamed A Dream” from “Les Miserables.”

She definitely caused a stir: her hair, lack of glamour and matronly dress all told a story before she even opened her mouth. You know she tried hard too dress well enough. And you know she’s been practicing that song since she first heard it. I think that Susan knows that she is a great singer. I think she decided that it was time to let someone else – besides a few friends, local choir and her cat – know it as well.

Susan is 47 (my age) overweight (me too) unmarried (me too) and has always dreamed of becoming a professional singer. But real life happened and though it was a dream deferred, it was not forgotten. Watching that audience rise to their feet with each big note brought tears to my eyes.

Ms. Boyle held steady and finished that song like a pro.

I am touched by the whole thing: by Susan Boyle’s performance as well as by the world’s happiness for her. It always warms my heart when the world shows its soft side.

It sure feels nice to be chatting about the nice lady who sang so beautifully as opposed to the Recession, or the pirates, or the latest person gone mad.

Cheers to Susan Boyle!!

What does that picture have to do with this subject? I’ve gotten several emails with YouTube clips of this audition and now if
I have the faintest idea this imagery will appear I cannot watch!
I absolutely HATE dummies, they scare me! Just like clowns!

If it doesn’t have anything to do with her then good luck to her anyway!

Well, she is so dowdy and then totally broadway belts this tune. It’s pretty inspirational especially after the way the judges were rolling their eyes and shit.

I think the initially skeptical audience learned the all-important lesson that you can’t judge a book by its cover. Brava Susan!

Absolutely. And she is so humble and has quite a lovely attitude… you know… “grown up.”

The video brought tears to my eyes. Not just that her voice was out of this world, nor that the judges and everyone got their asses kicked… it’s that she was so authentic. So… her! Very inspiring!

I know! She is just so down to earth and pragmatic about the whole thing. I wonder if they will “glam her up” for the next bout. I am waiting for it to unfold!!

In light of the superficial and glossy image most women performers are forced to uphold, I think that the attention that Susan’s won is refreshing indeed. I still say that the Brit’s are more forgiving when it comes to women’s images though. I don’t know if she would have gotten quite the same reception here.

My friend Andrea who performs in Europe often, says (without hesitation) “I agree.”

I didn’t even think about that though, I wonder if we would have made such a fuss if she had stepped out, say: tall and beautiful, coiffed and sexy – with that voice. I think we would have just said “Oh, she’s a great singer.” and moved on. Don’t you think? I am thinking that the unexpected glory in the unremarkable looking package would have impacted even us here in the States as well… the world loves an underdog!

Well, I loved seeing Simon’s face after he had just rolled his eyes about her before she sang and all of them were bagging on her presence. She is quite the frumpy dresser, middle aged—- but look closely at the fire in her eyes–she sings like an angel!! Oh how I wish my voice could do that.
    kudos to her.

Well at the pool they all were talking about this and I still have
yet to read the now 6 Fw: of this video. I’ll get to it eventually
I almost don’t have to with everyone going on in detail about it.
There were some good dirty jokes in the pool today these
80 year old ladies know how to dish it out!

TOday is Saturday and I am going to an art show on this garden estate up the road in Kahaluu doubtful I’ll buy anything but the estate itself is gorgeous. A friend is showing his bowls that he turns out of reclaimed wood, his wife is a pool buddy. I will however go to the pool and do my 600 to even out all the chili and wine I had last night ๐Ÿ˜‰
I hope you have a nice weekend dearest friend and dearest
