Lynne Jordan | A Great Big Diva

My cup runneth over & backstage…

December 17, 2008 By //  by Lynne Jordan

This never stops!! Okay, first of all, Liza was FANTASTIC. Her rendition of “Maybe This Time” and “New York New York” left me sobbing like a baby. She was hilarious, poignant, sweet and working her ass off. She was sweatin’, and dancin’ and the audience was enraptured and totally in her corner. It was a “Liza Love-fest.” And she was ever so grateful. And she looked wonderful.

After the show I walked around the corner to the clearly marked “STAGE DOOR” on Forty-Seventh Street. And the line was huge! The fans were lined up behind a barricade a few feet from the stage door. I spotted a girl at the door with a clipboard and so I went up to her. She looked annoyed. I said to her:

“I believe my name is on the list.”

“What’s your name” (in complete monotone)

“Jordan”

She looks down on the clipboard, “Jordan what?”

“Lynne Jordan” She checks the list and gestures me in with her head. Some big dude with a security jacket opens the door and I’m in. My head was whirling. I have to proceed down several thousand stairs… I am texting my friends the whole time. “I’m in! I’m in”

Me & Jim Caruso

I am in the bowels of the Palace Theater. I spot Jim Caruso from last night. He sees me and begins bragging:

“This is the girl from last night. She sang her ass off!”

I wait with a small group of fortunates for the diva. The room has a soft pink glow with white lounging furniture.

I call BFF Babs again to keep me company while I wait. I juggle my bags of merchandise (window card for Babs, cd for George, program, scrapbook) and my huge Prada purse that weighs a ton cause it contains, my camera, cough syrup, nail glue and various other shit (that I later dump at Liza’s feet. OY!) my big assed black winter coat, scarf and gloves… you know basic upscale bag lady.

Then Jim comes down and shouts:
“Lynne come NOW!”

Shit!!

I grab what I can and run after him up two flights of stairs. I reach the top and I’m panting like a big dog and – there she is! – Liza, the little cutie standing there waiting, with the director of her show.

She introduces us: “Here she is, I was telling you about her – from last night!”

I tell her I came to New York just for her show. She is touched. I tell her (while holding up the merchandise) “And it cost me a fortune!”

She laughs and says: “You come back to the show for free! And come when I have a day off so we can hang out! I gotta go home!” And she hugs me and exits.

“hang out” with Liza Minnelli? I was too ferklempt to take another photo.

I am planning my return trip as I lounge in my lovely hotel room.

P.S. I Love New York!!!
