My Appearance with the Million Dollar Quartet

June 2, 2010 By //  by Lynne Jordan

Me & the cast of MDQ.
My appearance with the The Million Dollar Quartet was a sublime, surreal and absolutely wondrous experience. I was so stressed out by nerves and insecurities in the few days leading up to it that when it finally happened I was left shellshocked. You woulda thought I’d never performed in front of an audience before in my life by the way my insecurities welled up inside of me in those two days before my appearance!

The actual appearance lasted under fifteen minutes. Fifteen minutes of utter bliss. My core circle of friends were there along with a few surprise folks (from Facebook) I was overwhelmed by the love and support they showed me, but I didn’t cry. That was left to BFF Deb who (right after my appearance) ran across the stage with a huge bouquet of orchids and embraced me all the while sobbing her heart out. My BFF Sara remained in her seat but also presented me with her own gorgeous bouquet of my favorite: sunflowers mixed with blooms from her garden. And good ole’ BFF Babs was there sitting behind me right before I went on. It was a night to cherish. It was a moment that came and went so quickly.

I was left dazed and stunned throughout the night and the next day and not until a week afterwards did I come down. I can’t help but compare it to a one night stand with a rockstar: it was great while it lasted but when it was over my life returned right back to normal. BAM!

As humble as I feel I can’t help but tell you that I was the first artist asked by the cast and producer to join the cast onstage at the Apollo Theater during a performance. And by all accounts it went really well. I sang Patsy Cline’s “Walking After Midnight” and Ruth Brown’s “Mama, He treats Your Daughter Mean.” I really let loose during “Mama” and got to clown around a bit.

I touched the stars as it were, and now my feet are once again planted firmly on the ground, but my steps are lighter, thanks to the wonderful cast of brilliant musician performers of MDQ who reached out to me and asked me to join them onstage. It did wonders for my spirit.

It was in short, a little miracle of happiness and recognition that was sorely needed in my performing life. I am left with a bit of a crush on the Million Dollar Quartet. Go see this show in Chicago while you can. It is a joyous celebration. And of course go see the boys tearing it up on Broadway. They were nominated for three Tony Awards.

P.S. I have been asked back to perform with the Chicago cast sometime in july. What joy is mine!!
