I also had a lovely conversation with a new friend (Chicago vocalist Andrea Love) who has done a lot of House track vocals and gave me some sound advice. I was feeling a tiny bit anxious over the whole thing cause I didn’t quite know how it all worked. The dance music scene is a different animal. The DJ/producer, who lives in Amsterdam, wanted me to listen to the track and come up with the vocals & lyrics! And though it felt like that’s the way it works, I had no point of reference. Andrea school me and reassured me. Thank you girl! It’s gonna be fun! Plus I will have made a cool friend (Niels the DJ) who might hook me up to some fun places, people and/or parties!
I have a meeting tomorrow with Arlene Malinowski (solo show writer, instructor extraordinaire) I took her class: “writing for the solo show” at Chicago Dramatists Workshop and she was and is so supportive and encouraging and excited. Her first order of business is to give me a deadline to have something ready for performance. GULP!
I hope I can follow through y’all. I really do. It’s never been the talent. I think it has really been fear – not of success but the fear that I won’t follow through. But what the hell, I just won’t give up. 2008 is a new beginning it seems. This trip to Amsterdam is just the jumping off point. And I intend to get this cabaret thing up and running also. I have received such a positive response from everyone regarding that venture. I will keep you posted – of course – I want all of you there in the audience!! Thank you all for listening and pulling for me to get off my well upholstered ass and just do it already!! I’m excited!!
