August 4, 2006 – A letter to all:
Hello everyone! it’s been so long since I’ve done anything with my web site. don’t ask why, that question will just be added to the infinite list of questions like: Why aren’t I on Broadway? haha.
But with the help of some very great and skilled friends I will be back in the thick of things and being pro-active with my..well, my life. I want to thank a very groovy sister right away: Ms. Adrienne Williams who will be acting as site manager from now on and resident Lynne Jordan “butt kicker”
She is a highly skilled computer person with a great fondness for the old girl (that’s me! I turned 45 years old this past birthday) and great hopes for this web site. I am very excited! she is also a very good friend that I met with Brady (only original Shiver and the drummer) years ago at Blues Etc. on Belmont St. We became friends immediately. she’s a huge music fan and quite worldly-she’s traveled all over and just recently moved back here to Chicago from a 2 year stint living and teaching in Japan.
So the site will have a new look perhaps but definitely a new attitude as I will be blogging journal entires and everything will be updated regularly, you can email me and add comments and so on. maybe even a store!
News:
I will be releasing a DVD very soon. it was shot here in Chicago in one of the best venues in town. it is beautifully shot . Unfortunately it will not be for sale as I am using it as a marketing tool for work. I wanted the cover to be unique and came up with the clever idea that it look like a feature DVD. You will see! There are 13 full length tunes, and a fabulous on camera introduction by Bill Kurtis who happens to be a personal friend and big fan. Okay, a wee bit of name dropping won’t kill ya! I also have a real quote from Film critic and fan, Roger Ebert! (more name dropping) I hope to expand my event and corporate work. We have been doing a lot of this lately and it more than pays the bills as well as pays for more marketing and products like DVD’s and Cd’s.
New CD:
I was just greatly inspired by Chicago Diva Terisa Griffin. www.terisagriffin.com
She is an amazingly talented vocalist and just a damn force of nature.
Anyhoo, I am in the process of gearing up for the big CD#2. I am hoping to make a nice R&B, blues project with a couple standards and like my First CD a bit of fun full of surprises. No projected release date. I am just trying to get through the summer. We are busy! No complaints here.
I’ve done some great gigs lately in the gala/benefit venue. We did the Lincoln Park Zoo ball 2005 & 2006. We did the Goodman theater gala and just got re-booked for 2007. I also, just booked the “Lyric Opera” of Chicago’s ball for Feb 2007; these parties are wonderful. They are well planned and well attended, and they always lead to more work, fans and friends. And of course there’s the weddings, summer concerts, “House of Blues” (HOB) and my beloved “Green Dolphin Street.”
I took a class on writing the One Woman Show at Chicago Dramatists this past winter and totally clicked with the instructor Dr. Arlene Malinowski. She was so encouraging and wonderful I believe with her guidance and expertise that I will be able to complete my 20 years-in-the-making one woman show. That is my dream folks: To perform on stage with monologue, comedy and lots of singing; where I can use my theater chops and do the performing and singing that many of you have loved and missed. keep the faith… the girl is back..with a little help from my friends.
On the personal front..oh there’s too much to tell so I will sum it up. I lost over 100 pounds between 2002 & 2004. I gained back 40 (OOPS!- more fodder for the one woman show) and the struggle is back on. Basically, I stopped doing what I did to lose the weight: working out regularly and watching the food intake cause, friends: mama loves to eat!!!
Love life:
Too scandalous too talk about, though I believe that statement is enough to get you guessing. Mama got game! Mama likes younger men and can get em too!
The band is fantastic fabulous jamming . We are still family and the work we have been doing has been superb. I am so proud and grateful to my boys – The Shivers. I have added horns also but use them mostly at the private events. Same line up. Brady, Ray, Bruno, Dave, Isiah and Mike.
Life is good.
Stay tuned, stay peaceful.
Love, Lynne
