my own trio of divas rejoicing at my newest adventure
I’m going to see Liza Minnelli on Broadway, all by my lonesome. I am so excited. I just read a review in Variety of her show “Liza’s at the Palace,” and then I went to the web site and BAM! decided I’m going to see the show. I ordered a single ticket (tenth row center aisle -!!!) booked a flight to NYC (just over two hundred bucks) and hotel (You won’t believe the deal I got for week nights) Perhaps I’ll get some inspiration. In any case, I feel compelled to see this living legend doing what she does best – showbiz. And of course I will be in NYC and staying in the heart of Times Square again – Bonus! Love that!!
I am mostly all gushy and thrilled to see her, and as Variety so aptly put it: “she represents an era of entertainment that’s all but gone.” But I can’t help worrying that Liza singing “Cabaret” and “Maybe This Time” may make me cringe with embarrassment (for her) even though I hope upon hopes that it will make me glow in the bask of her glory. Yeah, I got big expectations.
I’m gonna keep hope alive. Hell! I cry every time I see her sing & dance on the DVD “Liza with an M.” Liza embodies that ole school broadway showbiz thang – something that I feel I have in my spirit as well. She’s always been cute as hell and funny, and now, she’s a feisty ole broad. And I know she will be gettin her hair all wet; sweatin’ and giving her all. That’s what matters. That’s why I love Liza Minnelli. That woman bleeds for her audience and I’m going with my cup, ready to receive. Whoo hoo!!
Note: I just spent a few hours reading reviews and watching video excerpts of the show. No worries here!! No, she doesn’t have the voice of a nineteen year old, she’s a vet, she’s showbiz royalty and she is so grateful and I am so happy that I went for it and bought the ticket!
