and I am a bit nervous. I regret not keeping up with my blogging lately. I have so much to tell about what’s going on career wise. I will try to sum up this development before I go jump in the shower to get ready!
I set up a month long series of Sunday nights of performing with a trio from the band (a” Trio of Shivers”) at the Green Dolphin Street Night Club. We did one Sunday in April and it was a wonderful experience for me. I sat on a high boy chair with my music book and picked out the songs I wanted to sing. The trio was fantastic (Brady on drums, Tracey Baker – cool assed chick with dreads on bass and Ray on keys) and I was in good voice. I loved it.
Then on the following Monday, The Green Dolphin went through some kind of upheaval and all local live music nights were cancelled. But I had one of these intimate shows under my belt and I wanted to explore more. A few months back I sang in the Palm Court with the Chicago Cabaret Project. I knew I wanted to sing in that room again. I felt so at home there. Actually, I have always fantasized about singing in the Palm Court from way back but it was always just a passing fancy… Anyway, I had gotten the room manager’s card and contacted him and told him that I wanted to bring in a trio and sing in that room. I was shocked at how easy it was to do. The Goddess was smiling on me.
Let’s just hope that some folks will come out to support me. I am enjoying this new side of performing. I need to work harder at putting together a repertoire for this kind of show. That is a promise I will keep. It seems like I am doing the cabaret thing after all. Let’s hope I have good news when I return tonight.
