I Watched a Movie. I’m all better now…

May 1, 2009 By //  by Lynne Jordan

Thank goodness! I was feeling pretty sad and pathetic at the time of my last post: “Too Good To Be True” and I just couldn’t shake it. I had a couple conversations with friends and relatives who just weren’t making me feel better or maybe I am hyper sensitive to shit right now.

Anyway, suddenly I remembered!! I can watch a movie! That’ll make me feel better! That’s what will take me away from inside of my head & heart. I got a few hundred to choose from…

I popped in “Four Months, Three Weeks and Two Days” and away I went!! And this flick ain’t no fairy tale, happy go lucky film!! It is set in Communist Romania in the 80’s. Two college roomies go down the dark path to procure an illegal abortion for one of them (Gabita: the twit selfish one.) Otilla, the Sensible does a lot for this foolish friend of hers and it ain’t pretty.

The film is stark. The floors and hallways echo and clang; lights fizzle, pop on & off – there’s a bad connection somewhere; the streets are dark and nondescript and I don’t recall seeing the color green anywhere in this movie (except for the shirt Otilla wears in the film.)

In fact not much about this film is pretty. Not the point. It’s real and compelling and there are some moments in there that hit you so hard you know why this film was the Cannes International Palme D’or Winner 2007. It’s available on DVD. Check out this wonderful film from Romania.
