Way too much… like, I’m a hop and a skip from a hoarder… okay that’s a bit of a stretch but I have huge stockpiles of everything in no particular order: candles, greeting cards, objet, rubber bugs, miniatures, dvd’s, cd’s, body products (body scrubs, creams, oils and masks, bath salts, bombs and bubbles, face products) Art, SHOES, nail polish, make-up, books (soft & hard cover and art books), clothes, props & costumes, hats, wigs, jewelry, dolls, photographs because I love to take photographs, gadgets, magnets on my fridge, toys- including some action figures and four deluxe light sabers.
I even have two kitty litter boxes. I bought the second when I went to Europe just in case my kitty sitter didn’t stop by my apartment every day. At least I have a cat. I have a friend who keeps an empty litter box. I remember the conversation we had when I asked her about it:
“Where’s your cat?”
“Oh, Buttons. She died three years ago.”
“Oooh … And you kept her litter box …” I try to look sympathetic and bend the words “litter box” as though I thought it the sweetest gesture ever and not in the least bit crazy …
“Yeah, I keep meaning to get rid of it. I have some of her cat toys too, over there in that box on the table…”
I’m not quite that bad though I did hold onto the handmade ceramic kitty bowl that belonged to my last cat – “Kitty” who lived for 19 years.
Have I ever mentioned that Shana Punim pees in one litter box and poops in the other? I swear!
Too much shit I tell you! I have a very large apartment and I refuse to bring in another thing. I tell people:
Dont bring me a hostess gift, take something with you when you leave!
And yeah, I have thought about Ebay and having a garage sale. And Craig’s list.
Too much shit. I have too much shit.
And it mostly makes me happy. But sometimes I have this recurring dream where I find an entire wing in my apartment with all these glorious built-ins and cabinets and other types of storage. Sometimes I dream that my floors are clear and my home is very minimalist.
Surely my dreams are a sign right? A sign that I have too much shit.
However, it’s good shit – really good shit, just too much of it.
Lynne
I didn’t even mention my nun doll collection!!!

well you can seen all the body stuff my way I have dry skin, so I always want to help a friend out! lol

Good shit, bad shit, cat shit, whatever!!! Too much shit holds you back! Ever watched Hoarders- ” Buried Alive”? Now there is an interesting show. eBay has free listings often and USPS has free pick up. I know you have the Mac. You’d be surprised at the $$ in that “stuff”. You’re more open space at home is freeing. Been there done that! I’ve even told my sister don’t give me any collectibles or shit that sits around! A great idea for photos is a digital photo frame. Paperwork, get one of these new scanners that keeps everything on an SD card. Huge space saver. You’d love it! There is always Goodwill and Salvation Army too. I’m sure they’d pick up clothes. Share something as a gift is a great idea. A storage wing is cool, but it’s still there. I’ve tried to scale down to what I use regularly and shed the stuff I keep saying I may use that one day.
Lynne
Well, Deb, things aren’t quite that bad… You mistake my humor for a cry for help! the storage room was a dream… But thanks for the advice. Did you have to do a bunch of purging when you moved?
BlueCaribe
Oh Lynne, I too have TMS. Many are sentimental gifts, family ‘treasures’ and most are things I no longer have use for…other than to appreciate where they came from. Then I have those things that were impulse AADD purchases that were awfully special at one time…toys, shiny things and cosmetics.
I find it’s more fun to purge when someone is with me and they’d like to take ownership. I’m happy they’ll now enjoy it in their home and I can visit ‘it’ anytime. Clothes and household goods go to the women’s shelter on Grace…that’s easy to do a few times a year. It’s those potentially valuable things that I think MIGHT sell on eBay if I ever get around to it. My dream project is to photograph my stuff and make up one of those photo books for a compact keepsake. One of these days.
Lynne
Oh the woes of being sentimental!!! I have to go thru it all. The good thing is there is always willing to take stuff off my hands or floor so to speak! haha!
Lynne
But can one really get rid of an autographed Anna Nicole Smith Bobble Head???!!!
Deb O
I would definitely sell Anna Nicole! No I didn’t have to purge when I moved. At 58 I still have a 3 bedroom home with a living room, dining room, kitchen and mudroom. I started passing on several key items to my adopted nephew that started a family this summer. Any clothes or household goods I don’t use were given to others. I’m enjoying the free space and lack of clutter totally. I’ve also considered the inevitable after being executor of my parents affairs. I don’t want anyone to have to go through my boxes of sentimental items. I’ve been making envelopes of photos for kids I coached for two years now and sending them to them. With 24 years of coaching and 38 teaching I have a bit! I totally get your humor! I don’t think you need help at all. We do learn from one another. I enjoyed the idea of taking a photo of a keepsake to remember it. Thanks!
Lynne
The task of cleaning up the home after a loved one’s passing usually does the trick to start the de cluttering of life. I am thinking of that a lot. I could just see my nieces trying to make sense of it all… but only a small portion of it is junk. I’ve been purging stuff forever and actually using it (the bath products, candles etc) I need a bigger shredder!

Everyone tends to have too much stuff. I tend to keep things that remind me of my childhood since no one is alive in my family anymore who would remember anything. I am a photo hog too. Most of my clutter is stuff thst has no home and it moves from room to room and sorta lives there until it gets shifted again and then at some point I decide to deal with it. I am a thrift store hound too which is uber dangerous.
Lynne
Oh someone who relates! I gathered all of our old family photos (beautiful I might add) got them restored and some hand colored and beautifully framed. My collectibles make me happy. I have cut down greatly on spending – had to – but it isn’t my art & stuff that bugs me the most, it’s the dirty dishes and laundry and dust! LOL
Lynne
P.S. I will never sell my Anna Nicole bobble head!! Hers was such a tragic & crazy life. so pop culture! To have her signature on such an outrageous item is too precious to me! : )

I haveta say some things I will never part with is my doodles and notes from CJ,( passing notes, artwork ) my artwork from college and my journals since I was 10. But then again, at some point I need to burn these journals. Daaaaammmn. There’s some telling stuff. BTW, when I went to DC this summer I got a Obama bobble head. Yeeeah. I know, I’m the shit.
Lynne
LOL I went home and got all of my journals since childhood as well!! Read ’em all one weekend. I have an Obama action figure – bought it at a Borders Bookstore before the primary! Love it! Missed the bobble head though…
