I am so excited!! Five days of movies! Movies! Movies! I hope I don’t O.D. on butterred popcorn. And Roger Ebert has managed to pick many movies I have not seen. Actually, I almost saw three of them but they left the theaters before I got a chance – as often happens with indie flicks.
Ebertfest (originally called the Overlooked Film Festival) was started over ten years ago by Roger Ebert to show films that he felt were fabulous but overlooked by the big studios and distributers and therefore not seen by much of the general film going public. He picks a mix of styles, including a silent film with the original score performed live in the theater.
We get to watch the films in the historic Virginia theater in Champaign-Urbana (Roger’s hometown and college town) and the festival is jam packed with special guests: directors, actors, writers, producers, scholars, film critics and historians. There will be lectures and a book signing and movies, movies, movies!!
The opening film is “Woodstock, 3 days of Peace and Music, The Director’s Cut” along with its director as special guest. My absolute favorite doc “Trouble the Water” will be screened as well as several other films that sound wonderful, including an animated film called “Sita Sings the Blues” which I am dying to see. It never got distribution as the rights for the music priced out to more than the film’s production cost!!
I am so excited!! I will be blogging from Ebertfest so stay tuned!!

How are you getting there since you don’t drive? It looks like you will have a great time – I looked at the website. That
Woodstock movie would be of great interest to me. One of my swimming buddies went with her husband the only people I actually know who attended.
Have fun and don’t get sore from sitting so much! I’ve never been to C/U and always think of it from “Some LIke It Hot.”
Looking forward to your posts while there! a hui hou!
