That is what I am looking for! I have embarked upon my search for lodgings in Amsterdam! It is very exciting. At the suggestion of my well traveled cousin (Miss International – this one is) I am seriously considering leasing an apartment versus the typical hotel scenario. I have been systematically surfing the net for suitable places.
I decided to dig up my old Amsterdam info materials (from my last trip there in 1998) and yes I still have it in a file marked: “Amsterdam” Anyhoo, I decided to look up some of the past web sites I had printed info from and found the Official Site of the Amsterdam Tourist & Convention Bureau. From this site I found an entire list of some of the best B & B’s in the city, travel blogs and all the schedules of the museums as well as their web site URL’s. I love going to museums and Amsterdam has dozens of them.
But regarding lodgings:
It’s hard to choose. I am torn between picking a place that’s highly mentioned and recommended or one that is quaint and lovely and not so trendy. I don’t know how much I should trust what I see on the net. The photos look great on the web sites but how much of it is true? I guess it is safer to go with the ones that are known. Or is this just another part of the adventure? These are not big hotels. They are one or two rooms or a small suite in a (often times) home on a canal built in the 17th Centruy located right smack in the middle of some groovy now happening neighborhood. Some of them even have private entrances!! I have started emailing the owners now and it is so nice to get a personal response back. I am also considering a small privately owned trendy hotel (lot’s of Feng shui and cool music on the website) who gave me a very personal response and price cuts. Luckily, I have all of my maps and reference materials and I still remember the neighborhoods. I am so excited!
Another good thing: I am getting great deals offered to me since I am going at such a goofy time of the year. Yeah, it’ll be cold, the days will be short and the nights long but I am just so happy about this. What an adventure! Maybe I will have a little affair whilst I’m there! Maybe I’ll get some work done.
