This was the day I met up with my BFF Carla.. Actually the whole extending my trip thing was part of a plan to hang at Carla’s house and had she not changed her plan and made me seek out this wonderful hotel I would have never had this love affair with San Francisco.
Carla met up at my hotel which I proudly showed off to appropriate “How wonderful!” & “oh my gods!” and off we went to explore the city. First to Lombard street: the crookedest street in the world. It’s crazy man. The street zig zags totally. Don’t ask me why they created such a thing. But I feel for the residents casuse there were hordes of people taking photos and lines of cars taking the descent down the street.
THE HAIGHT
Which is the name for the neighborhood surrounding the corner of Haight & Ashbury. I was of course drawn to it. I got that hippie thing in me big time. And the Haight is still funky and crazy and fun.
There is lots of great shopping there: clothes, jewelry, and of course – head shops, Lotsa signs of the Grateful Dead. And plenty of tie dye in some shop windows. I spent a fortune there. I found a huge feather head dress and boas at a store called Piedmont. You can spot Piedmont anywhere. They have huge legs hanging out of their second story window.
And then there were the “painted ladies”…
The Haight still rocks!
