I have not done so well in the lifestyle changing department. I mean, well, I ate a big bowl of chili this evening – with a corn pancake – and cheddar cheese at my favorite tavern/restaurant in the neighborhood. YUM!!! But I did walk today as I did my errands and even though it was rainy and dreary, I had a good time. I picked up a coupla DVD’s and a magazine and shared some laughs with a few folks and well, I gotta tell ya: I had a great day.
ARTHRITIS UPDATE: Okay, me and all of my friends are discovering new and sharper pains every month. My BFF Babs was complaining about sharp knee pain this week. And I swear that everyone was limping around on Broadway today while I was running errands. Seriously!! Even the youngish guy (around 34 years) ringing the small line of customers at Borders was complaining about his knee pain today.
… always when it rains…
This was only after the woman ahead of me groaned out loud as she straightened her back after digging around in her tote bag. I don’t think she meant to groan as loudly as she did and she looked around – embarrassed.
I reassured her:
Oh honey, you should be around me when I get up out of a chair!
Someone in line behind me chimes in:
How many attempts does it take you? I usually make it after the second!
Hearty laughter by us all.
I’m about to install a pulley system above my bath tub.
Oh God, I’ve been dragging my leg like “Quasimodo” all day! This rain really aggravates my joint pain!
A spry woman in her early seventies chimed in after listening to us “whipper snappers” grouse and moan:
This is just the beginning!! Just wait! It only gets worse!
We all turned and looked at her. She was leaning on a cane. Yep! She would know. Suddenly the light mood was darkened. We took up our purchases, went our separate ways and contemplated our approaching old age, aches and pains.
Betty Davis said it best: Old age ain’t for sissies.
I went to “Fat Cat’s” and had a cocktail.

The right cocktail is sure to take some of the edge off of knee pain ๐

And it was healthy: muddled basil leaves & grapes! Well there was vodka in there too but well, you know…
Lynne
I take it back! Even tho I ate chili…
1. I cleaned my house.
2. Made spa appts.
3. got out of my house and walked.
That counts right?!!!
Fly Girl
You know, I refuse to pay lip service to the knee complaints! Fly girls don’t limp or acknowledge pain. When my knee hurts, it means that I need more weight training classes. That always clears it right up. Of course, then everything else is hurting but we won’t go into that…
Lynne
So I take it that is a big yes to the ‘Do your knees hurt?” question? LOL… you go fly girl!! I definitely need weight training sessions and me knees did not hurt when I was in shape…

I got a jump start on all of you ladies…….I was banged from behind (in a CAR!!!) at a red light, the 85 year old lady didn’t “see the light was red” and when she crashed into me my knees hit the dashboard and the souvenir of that one are bone chips
in each knee and now arthritis many years later. This accident was in 1976. Sometimes if I get hit just in the right spot by
maybe hitting my knee into a table leg or something they blow up like balloons and bruise as the chips are really sensitive.;-(
Lynne
Oh my GOD!! Stop the madness: floating bone chips? SCREAM! Well, I guess you didn’t say they were floating but that’s what I pictured: little bone chips floating in the your knee liquids like space debris waiting to come and “getcha!” with a nice sharp twinge of pain…
Oh My God, I gotta go soak in the hydro-tub immediately.

Welcome to OA, RA and everything in between…btw, arthritis doesn’t have anything to do with age. (though it can) even kids get it! My knees, shoulder (sky diving accident) hurts too!
–OA advocate!
Lynne
I know this. I have two friends who have had it since childhood. One friend can not turn her head, the other can not bend her left knee at all and she has to get needles full of liquid drained from her knee on occasion.
But I assume if you have not contracted it at an early age, then old age helps bring it on along with/and a combo of other factors as well. Don’t get me started on the Arthur Brothers.

Well now, I just saw on Good Morning America this morning that it may also be my Uggs! Apparantly they do not give enough arch support and can cause foot and knee problems. Flip flops too. My 2 favorite types of shoes O NO!!!!!!
Lynne
Oh No indeed! Flip flops are my life (adorned with Swarovsky crystals of course) So lose weight and no fip flops… life can be so cruel!

I have rheumatoid arthritis (still don’t know how to spell it and don’t care this time) and I take glucosamine and chondroitin pills, which -really- help. I haven’t been able to do push-ups in years because the action kills my wrists. Arthritis sucks!
Lynne
RA is a real drag. Both of my parents suffered from arthritis – my dad had it real bad… osteo – whatever. did you ever read my post called the Arthur Brothers?
