You’re thinking to yourself: Explain please…
Okay, I got an email asking me in broken email English to come sing:
Maybe You came to Riga and make 2 shows in february this year and play with Latvian Blues Band – !! We be happy see You in Riga !! If You like it – talks about details thru phone or e-mails ! Thank You –
I swear to you that’s what it said. Immediately, I contacted the musicians I know who have done this gig and they said it was great: good people; nice small venue that is located directly across the street from the hotel – which is gorgeous; and the Latvian Blues Band (that’s the name of the band) is awesome. I did some research on line – it’s all legit and Riga is the capital and largest city in Latvia. It is a lovely, hip little European city filled with Medieval landmark treasures and its historical centre has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
I think to myself: Why not? The pay isn’t great but it’s a free trip to Europe and a chance to sing in the Baltics and – well – it’ll be an adventure right? And so begins the Baltic Blues Adventure. Be assured that there will be blogs coming direct from Riga, Latvia.
However, tonight, I was having serious second thoughts: Am I crazy? Is it worth it? Will I do okay?
I gotta go back and pull out my Blues repertoire for this one. But I think it’ll lead to more stuff over there in the Baltic. There’s a couple Big Blues festivals there in Lithuania and Estonia and the audiences are so appreciative over there. Maybe I can get some decent exposure. I won’t let the doubts and fears stop me. It’s funny. You’d think I’d never sung before the way I stress over this shit but I am just being honest. I guess it’s the way with artists, the insecurity and doubt. It’s definitely the way with me. Y’all remember me and my comfort zone and singing without my band is way out of my comfort zone. But I think it’s time to stop being a punk bitch and be the singer diva that I need to be. If I get to work and pick some awesome material – I should do well over there. And I can sell some CD’s.
Power bracelets: ON.
Stay tuned.

Hey, Lynne,
I know a couple people who have gone to Latvia, and played with the Latvian Blues Band. Do it! They really enjoyed it, and I’m sure you will, too. Phil Guy did, and I believe Toronzo Cannon. I am sure there are others, but I can’t think of them right now. But I’ve never heard anything negative about it!

Thanks for the info. I am glad to hear to hear it!

Gotta get to work!!
