Yep!! I am heading back to NYC to check out the fabulous Ann Hampton Callaway at Lincoln Center and sing again at Birdland in Midtown. I am gonna do “If I Can’t Sell It” this time. It’ll be new schtick to the audience in New York. I am thinking of even bringing a boa. Or is that too much? ha!
Ann is the the person who first told me about Cast Party at Birdland and you all know what that night was like. Please check out her music and website! Ann Hampton Callaway’s Site
I met Ann at the Rush Fashion Show in September 2008. She and her sister Liz were the featured guest star performers. They are both accomplished singer performers who have won Tony’s and Emmy’s. Their dad is celebrated journalist, writer and Chicagoan John Callaway. Her mom – Shirley – is a singer, pianist and renown vocal coach.
Ann was very supportive of me and suggested that I: “stop hiding out in Chicago and let the world hear/see” me!! She has just released a new CD “At Last” and is a respected and successful songwriter. Ann has penned tunes for Barbara Streisand among other stars and wrote the theme music for Fran Dresher’s TV show “The Nanny.” And boy can that chick sing!! I was blown away when I first saw her sing – and that was at a rehearsal! Her voice is smooth as butter and she can rip into a scat like crazy!! She’s like a cross between Joni and Ella. She is a total pro and just wonderful. I’ve nicknamed her “Collard Greens” cause she’s got a lot of soul and has her own sound. I can’t wait to see her show.
I will be staying by the United Nations in the empty apartment of dear friends. It should be an exciting trip.
I got Mick ( fabulous trombone player) to make charts for “Sell It” and well, here we go again… Wish me luck!! I can’t wait to eat a pastrami sandwich and matzo ball soup and latkes at a New York deli!! I have to find the Second Avenue Deli. Anyone have a favorite deli to recommend?
