Today is a day or remembrance of that terror, that heartache, that shock known as 9/11. I lost a friend when the towers fell that day: Carl Valvo, father, husband and buddy. We all lost so much including our innocence and our naivete. We all became citizens of the world and witnesses to the deep desperation and evil that exists in the hearts of men. Funny that today I am being interviewed by Voice of America. 9/11 probably won’t be a topic discussed but I will tell a story of my own and the terrorism my ancestors faced by desperate people trying to control their world and spread hate – the near lynching of my grandfather followed by “Strange Fruit” live on camera.
