I met George Lucas.

I really did. I met him Saturday night at a wedding reception at which we (me and the band) were performing. I was recommended by Melody Hobson (President of Ariel Capital Management -black owned investment firm – hugely successful – and she is the groom’s boss & mentor) Oh yeah, George Lucas is her boyfriend.

Melody introduced us. He was very shy. He made little or no eye contact unless directly engaged. He did have, however, eyes for his date: the lovely and bubbly, brilliant and rich Melody Hobson. They were quite cuddly … amazing.

My favorite image: George Lucas running to the dance floor (at Melody’s urging I’m sure) to dance to me singing “I Will Survive.” There he was, dancing while I sang: dancing and smiling. I am still reeling from it. God, I wish I had made my guys learn the song the alien band is playing & singing at Jabba’s the Hut’s estate in “Return of the Jedi.”

And when he left the party quietly he took my hand and told me: “You’re good. Enjoyed it.” And that, was that.

P.S. I gave Melody a red feather boa ( a thank you as she referred me for the gig) and a mini one for George. He loved it. I didn’t gush or scream in his face about how much I ADORE Star Wars, and think he is amazing and…and…I still get whacked just thinking about it…

It was funny. None of the guys in my band were geeked up about it at all. I was dying I was so excited. Obviously, they are not Star Wars freaks like me. I own three light sabers: the deluxe ones with the sound effects that switch on & off…I ain’t fuckin around.

Everyone was just ignoring him. Some didn’t even know who he was…
“George Who?”
“Oh, the guy that did Star Wars…OH…”

I wanted to scream at the top of my lungs:
GEORGE LUCAS IS HERE! DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEA WHAT HE HAS DONE? DO YOU KNOW WHAT HE CREATED? HE IS BRILLIANT! IT IS UNNATURAL TO IGNORE HIM!

But I was cool. After all, this was a wedding and he was just the groom’s boss’ date…right? OH My God! I fucking met George Lucas!!!!
