Back to the Drake Hotel

Well, I guess it wasn’t just me and my loved one’s opinion.  Lynne Jordan & a Trio of Shivers done good.  The Drake has booked us for Friday nights through June and July.  Wow.  This is the start of my cabaret show development.  If I do this right and don’t screw up (meaning I keep bringing in the new material) I could really create some magic here.  The manager gently nodded toward some restrictions – no drinking on stage – not a problem, and he made some request-like-gesture towards repertoire but I really do feel he “gets it” and gets me and will allow me to do my thing.  I’m not some lounge singer sitting and waiting for requests.  I’m gonna give them a show.  I’m gonna give them me.  And I am ready for this – there is a chance to really shine here.  The guys are all on board – Brady especially – even Ray gave up a coupla better paying piano dates to keep our little combo cohesive – no subs.  The Drake is a fine, elegant venue and the clientele is sophisticated with a fine eye for quality entertainment. Yeah baby… me and the Palm Court at the Drake Hotel are a perfect pair.

Funny note about last Sunday:  I sang “Fly Me to the Moon” which I usually do as a duet with Mike (in his Louis Armstrong voice) and because I hear his part so clearly in my head even when I perform it solo,  I decided to do both my natural voice and mimic Mike’s voice (doing his part) and called it my “ode to schizophrenia.”  It tore the place up!   I forgot about what a great mimic I can be and that I can act.  I’m gonna have fun with this.  I got to get to work!

Comfort zone? Who needs a comfort zone?

Power Bracelets: ON

I’ll keep you posted.

P.S. It was Ann Hampton Callaway who encouraged me to explore the cabaret thing.  That’s how she got started around town in New York City.  Oh yeah, I still got my sights set on the Big Apple.
